I’ve been watching the NBA playoffs recently and I was shocked to see that San Antonio Spurs, the most team-oriented team ever built this decade, is using the Hack-a-Shaq tactic. And to make matters worst, it is being done in the middle of game while there were numerous lead-changes.
To me, this shows that Greg Popovich is not confident with his team’s defense. With retorting to fouling, he assures that most the Sun can get is 2 points. And that is, if Shaq makes both free throws. If you consider your team superior, then play the game the way it should be played. I wonder if anybody in the Spurs team ever say anything to their coach regarding this matter. The end justifies the means! I don’t know. The Spurs is a good team and they could very well be the most dominating team this decade. But they lost my respect for them. And anybody else who would follow the same tactic will get the same level of disgust from me!
